Foremilk vs Hindmilk

Mythbuster there is no such thing as “foremilk” and “hindmilk”in the sense that they are not different kinds of milk. There is no magic time when our breastmilk changes composition.

💓The terms simply describe the way that fat content of milk increases as the breast is drained. “Foremilk” is defined as the milk available initially when a baby starts feeding, “hindmilk” as the milk that can be expressed at the end of a feed. “Foremilk” is not necessarily “low” in fat, as it it depends on how much time has passed since the previous feed.

💓As long as your baby is attached well at the breast and feeding efficiently you don't need to worry about fore and hind milk at all.

How do I know? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

💓Look at baby's nappies are they turning seedy and yellow by day 3. Poos are primarily made up of hindmilk.

💓Look at baby's weight. A baby who is gaining approximately 30grams per day in the first 3 months is most certainly getting enough fatty milk.
